Aviva and I went to the Israel Museum today! It was my first museum in Israel and I loved it. When My parents were here they tried going, but there wasn't enough time. I thought about my dad because I knew how much fun we would have had together. It reminded me of the time we visited the Met when my Mom and Ariel (sister) walked around Central Park.
In Austin, I didn't go to many museums, so walking (Aviva and I took the wrong bus by mistake) to a very famous museum was new to me. There was art, archaeology, and history; everything I found interesting. I think I enjoyed it a lot because I had amazing company (thanks Aviva) and I was truly interested in what I was reading about. There was one room that described the clothing from different religions (Judaism, Islam, and Christianity). For instance, Muslim women once wore eight layers of clothing and a face covering and Christian women often wore a cross across their chest. The more Aviva and I walked, the more we found and the more we learned. This was an experience I wouldn't have gotten behind a desk. My mom and I are "visual learners" and seeing the history is much more tangible than barely focusing on a presentation.
I think one of the main things I learned is to explore. To skip a day of class and to do something that I will hold on to for a long time. At the end of our self guided tour Aviva and I sat in a cafe and drank hot chocolate and ate avocado sandwiches. We reflected on the things we liked the most and how excited we both were to visit more places that gave us the same thrill to learn.
